What is the use of Ribcap?

In case you fall or if you hit your head against an object, the protectors which are sewn in to the Ribcap absorb a part of the impact forces and protect you from injuries. Rèmy Willinger, Professor of Biomechanics at the University Strasbourg and acknowledged expert in the field of head protection, has completely tested Ribcap in fall 2009. As a result he came to the conclusion “Ribcap prevents head trauma – in all tested impact situations, heads protected by Ribcap showed significantly lower injury risks”

Is Ribcap like a helmet?

Ribcap can’t replace your helmet! The company Ribcap is fully devoted to the “Soft Protection Technology”. Since many years Ribcap is following a contrary technology to the hard shell and is successfully researching how you can reach the best possible protection effect with a soft protection material.

What kind of injuries does the Ribcap help to prevent?

Every injury is different and every fall or impact produces other forces and has other effects. The Ribcap provides a good protection at the moment of an impact on slippery surfaces (for example slopes, ice rink or snow-covered roads) or when hitting your head against round objects. But it almost doesn’t protect you from sharp objects (for example a ski stick) because of the soft protection material.

What material are the protectors made of?

The material from which the protectors are manufactured is a Swiss high-tech material with visco-elastic characteristics and is manufactured exactly to the requirements of Ribcap through a complicated electronic network procedure. This is how density and hardness of the material can be precisely adjusted to our request. The material is very light, 100% breathable and also remains unaffected during very low temperatures. The protection material is certified with the „Oeko-Tex Standard 100“. This confirms that the material is free from pollutants and solvents (Test-Nr. ZHAO 053928).

Why should I wear a Ribcap and not a helmet?

When you don’t feel comfortable with a helmet on and therefore don’t wear it, when the helmet impedes your hearing or when you would rather wear a soft knitted cap than hard headgear.
When you catch yourself noticing that you rarely or never use your helmet even if you have one .
In contrast to a conventional woollen hat the Ribcap provides you an excellent protection and even looks very good.

For what kind of sports or other activities can the Ribcap be used?

Basically the Ribcap can turn into your constant companion in the cold season. You can use it for cycling across town (whether on the road with a fixie or a threewheeler), jogging, walking, horseriding through the winter landscape, on the slopes or in the park. More and more paragliders, alpinists and ski tourers appreciate the Ribcap because it is very light and foldable and can be carried easily in a backpack. Especially ideal for longer tours. Ribcap is also very popular with the dutch ice-skaters, who are gliding smoothly over the frozen lakes. For dangerous activities and extreme sports, where the risk of accidents is increased, we recommend you strongly to wear a helmet.

What material is the Ribcap made of?

Ribcap is knitted on the outside with a high quality Italian yarn (50% Merino-wool / 50% Acryl) and fleece on the inside so that it doesn’t unpleasantly itch. The protectors are made out of Swiss high-tech material with visco-elastic characteristics. The Ribcap is 100% breathable and also remains unaffected during very low temperatures.

Why ist the Ribcap in different sizes available?

Where are the Ribcaps produced? Do you ensure Fair Trade?

Ribcap works together with companies who care about the environmental-friendly and sustainable production, who treat their employees with respect and where the products are produced in humane conditions. The protectors are developped and produced in Switzerland. The products are knitted and made-up in Bulgaria, where we work together with a medium-sized company who is specialised in the production of headgear. Ribcap organizes and checks the production itself.
